A glimpse of the setting moon – and a new day (and year) breaking

27 December 2014

View from Mt GillenWalked up Mt Gillen the other morning.

Got up at 5:30 am and drove West from Alice Springs along the Lara Pinta drive.

Suddenly – a glimpse of the setting moon.

Huge and orange, disappearing fast behind a mountain range.

Day breaking. Start walking.

Nature is so powerful and yet so delicately balanced.

I see this in no other place as strongly as in the Australian desert.

Life has adapted to the harshest of environments – survived over millennia.

Trees – hundreds of years old.

Two thirds of their growth underground, where the roots can draw up the little water available to keep the tree alive and growing.

Reflecting on this makes me acutely aware of the resources we have – and how immensely adaptable we are.

I’m in awe of this ancient country.

Personal worries become insignificant – I’m coming back to myself.

Powerful places make coming back to oneself easier. However, it does not have to be the vastness of Central Australia.

It can be a beach at the ocean, a tree in a park, a bench at a pond, a sacred spot in your home.

With the new year coming up, it is a good idea to seek out one of these spots and be by yourself for a while.

Take time out.

Breathe deeply a couple of times and let yourself sink in and come back to yourself.

Reflect on what was and what will be.

What are your resources to stay alive and to grow?

To make the breaking year better than ever?

If you’d like assistance in this, please get in touch with me.

Helping you find your resources is what I’m here for.
